Our Voyage

We started in Seychelles in early 2024, then sailed Nesi (our 60ft catamaran) to Madagascar, South Africa, Namibia, across the Atlantic Ocean to Brazil... hosting visiting families & adventurous travelers in every country. We are heading to Caribbean by end of 2025. Learn more.

How to join us

Green Coco Expedition is a world-schooling voyage for all-ages, aboard the 60ft catamaran Nesi. It is perfect for families and adventurous travelers, with an onboard teacher for kids and learning workshops for adults. We are World schooling by boat! The Expedition is circumnavigating the globe while learning about Nature, off-grid skills, and living in community.The inspiration? We are sailors, so we decided to make the boat our kids' school. Might as well make this a learning experience for everyone, right?We have teachers aboard and families joining along the way.   • PASSAGE: Rio de Janeiro via Abrolhos to Peninsula de Maraú. May 17-June 7 (21 days). 1 Cabin Available.

  • PASSAGE: Peninsula de Maraú to Recife, via Salvador. June 9-20 (11 days). 1 Cabin Available.

  • FULL TRIP: Recife to Fernando de Noronha.

  • PASSAGE: Fernando de Noronha to Tobago. July 4-August 30. 1 Cabin Available.

2025-2026 ~ Caribbean

  • TRIP: Trinidade to Grenada. November 2- November 11. 2 Cabins Available. Bonus: we're offering a sail training course on this trip!

  • FULL TRIP. Grenada to St. Vincent. 12 days.

  • FULL TRIP: St. Vincent to Martinique. Dec 7-20.

  • FULL TRIP: Martinique to Guadalupe. 13 days.

ABOUT YOUR hosts

We are a family with 4 year old twins traveling around the world in our catamaran, Nesi. This is our home; the world is our school. Visiting teachers live aboard the boat, joined by other families and friends from our Cooperative who participate in 2 week trips. We can't wait to share this journey with you, from near or afar :)

Expedition Letters are hand made, sent by SNAIL MAIL monthly to your home or school -- anywhere in the world!!Who doesn't love receiving awesome letters in the mail from far away?? Especially when they are full of cool stories and trivia :)With beautiful drawings in the 19th century naturalist style of explorers, filled with art and educational nuggets to inspire a love of learning and discovery, we are bringing back a screen free experience to families.We hope to instill a love of learning thru exploration, one letter at a time!Kids will explore the world via the countries that Green Coco visits during our 15 year circumnavigation world schooling expedition.Each paid subscription helps us sent Letters to classrooms to share this with other kids; and also supports our artist Joelie .Global shipping included.

Meet the Artist

Joelie Russell

The artist behind Expedition Letters is Joelie from Western Australia. She is a child educator & artist who currently lives in Cocos Keeling islands.HOW DID WE MEET?
Joelie came aboard Nesi as the expedition teacher for 4 months, sailing with us from Seychelles to Madagascar. Her training in Waldorf/Steiner education and love of outdoors created super fun & artistic experiences for the kids aboard the boat!THE STORY BEHIND THE LETTERS
We chatted many times over dinner on the cockpit of Nesi, wondering: "how can we make the Expedition a screen-free experience for kids?" We thought, who doesn't LOVE getting letters in the mail?? We also like the style of Naturalist field notes from the 19th century, full of art and romance. So we created Expedition Letters, a mixture of letters and naturalist field notes, to promote a love of learning with a screen-free experience.JOELIE'S BACKGROUND
Most famous for her baskets made from fishing net debris found in the shores of Cocos Keeling Island, Joelie also makes beautiful lino-print artwork. She creates the stamps for Green Coco's Crew Sunshirts too! Your Letters subscription directly supports Joelie's art and livelihood. We hope to share more of her work here soon!

Green Coco Cooperative

We are a home-grown cooperative of friends who decided to go sailing around the world! We welcome all-ages, including families with kids 6 months and up.Led by Kristian & Sabrina aboard their original 1968 trimaran Aldebaran (42ft), the co-op sailed south from California in 2015, with members joining for 2 week legs along the way, joining in Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and Ecuador.During their 7 years stint in French Polynesia, Kristian & Sabrina upgraded to the 2000 catamaran Selavi (46ft) and started expanding the co-op with new captains for Aldebaran.In February 2024, we launched the Green Coco Expedition, moving aboard the 2010 catamaran Nesi (60ft) in Seychelles, starting our world-schooling circumnavigation. The voyage begins by heading around Madagascar, South Africa, Namibia, and across the Atlantic to Brazil. New captains were recruited to continue hosting members in Tahiti's islands.Our vision for the co-op is a space to empower our community to spend time in nature, to create more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, and to help fulfill more dreams. We welcome all like-minded enthusiasts :)
